The radical decentralization that the 1980s and 1990s technologists created has been a wondrous thing. We may lose it to authoritarian governments, corporate monopolists, and our human preference for convenience. But I’ll put my hopes on people like the ones in this book who see the possibilities for the future, and do their part to bring it about — and are human beings, with all their foibles and richness, in the process.
